Greetings to all,
I am writing this introductory note to make sure that Wollo University is one of the fast-growing
government-owned public higher learning institutions in the Amhara regional state.
Since its establishment in the late 1990s, we have made substantial progress in the academic,
research and community service areas. The university is now providing trainings to its students
in more than forty academic units inside the nine colleges, institutes, and schools being
functional at present. This shows that the university has made a reasonably concrete growth in terms
of its staff composition and qualification and the way in which it provides quality education to its
students. It is our conviction that additional progress will certainly be made with the concerted effort
of the entire university community. A university is ‘a small town,’ as it is often referred to, if you will,
comprising of thousands of students with diverse political and religious persuasions, as well as a whole set of
personal or group interests. Considering all these diversities, the university is working as best it can to be
accommodative as expected, and be an ideal home for its beloved students, support and academic staff. In fact,
realizing this objective is not an easy job, which requires a relentless and consistent dialogue and discussion
on how to handle differences or disagreements on the one hand and create a serene and untroubled teaching-learning
atmosphere on the other. For this to happen, the university is working ‘hand and glove’ with the different government
offices, thinking that this joint effort would facilitate the attainment of its major objectives of constant growth
and improvement and helping it become a hub of academic and research excellence. As it is growingly involved in local
communities, the university is becoming increasingly corporate in nature, providing different services and enlarging
its internal revenues from time to time. This proves that the university begins to see itself as a conscientious citizen
with a responsibility to serve the community. Last but not least, leadership in our university is a practical and
everyday process of supporting, managing, developing and inspiring of both the academic and support staff. In other
words, our leadership is a collective one exercised by everyone, from the university administrative board down to an
individual student or security guard.
