Background of Informatics Colleges:
College of informatics was established in 1999 E.C. The first dean was Mr. Abdu Seid Ahmed. The Second dean was Dr. Ahmedin Mohammed Ahmed, the then Mr. Ahmedin Mohammed Ahmed. The college had two departments under it: Information Communication Technology and Computer Science. The College was downgraded to department of Informatics and merged with College of Natural and Computational Science on 2002 E.C. having three programs under department of Informatics: Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology.
In 2004 E.C, the college was reopened with its previous name, College of Informatics. When it was reopened, the college had three departments: Computer Science, Information Technology and Information Systems. The first college dean in the reopening was Mr. Habtamu Mohammed Birhanie. The next and current dean after the reopening is Mr. Abdu Seid Ahmed. Currently the college is running 4 undergraduate departments i.e. Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology and Software Engineering enrolling 957 regular, 1138 summer, 240 extension program students. In addition to this our college has one postgraduate program, M.Sc. in Computer Networks and Communication enrolled 47 Students.
To become a pioneer college in 2025 in teaching, academic research, technology transfer and community service at country level in the area of Information Communication Technology through offering locally relevant and internationally consistent programs aiming at contemporary learning.
To produce competent and excellent workforce who can support the country’s growth and transformation in the area of Information Communication Technology, to carry out research addressing ICT real life societal problems, to provide community service, and to offer consultancy and training services in the specialization of the college.
